In a high-profile project for both Yokohama Tire and the state of Mississippi, Yokohama Tire constructed a new, $300 million manufacturing facility in West Point, Mississippi that can produce up to one million commercial truck tires annually.
KBD Group provided architecture and engineering services for the project and asked Fisher Engineering, Inc. (FEI) to perform fire protection engineering and life safety design, as well as construction period services as part of the design team.
The project encompassed a three-story tire manufacturing facility with accessory office areas, a raw materials warehouse separated from the manufacturing facility with fire walls, a finished product warehouse separated from the manufacturing facility with fire walls, a maintenance building, an office building, a canteen building, and a hazardous materials storage building. Constructed on more than 500 acres of land, the facility currently houses more than 260 employees but will eventually accommodate 500.
Fire protection systems include fire pump, water storage tank sizing, wet pipe sprinkler, and pre-action sprinkler systems.
