Student Housing Life Safety Assessments at Arizona State University

Sector: Student Housing

Arizona-State-UniversityArizona State University (ASU) is a public metropolitan research university located on five campuses across the Phoenix, Arizona, metropolitan area, along with a sixth campus at Lake Havasu City. ASU has the largest enrollment of any public university in the U.S.

As part of a design team led by architecture firm Ayers Saint Gross, Fisher Engineering, Inc. (FEI) provided fire protection and life safety-related services to assist ASU’s Educational Outreach and Student Services with its Campus Life Study project. The team assessed six older residence halls and the Memorial Union to review their conditions, functional utility of common areas, and related programmatic conditions. FEI evaluated the buildings’ fire protection and fire alarm systems for code compliance, system functionality, and system life cycle.

FEI’s specific services included conducting building surveys to observe and document current conditions related to the fire protection and fire alarm systems, performing research as necessary to determine and document the applicable requirements associated with each of the building’s fire protection and fire alarm systems, and providing a report summarizing their activities and findings.
